IT IS COMMON SENCE.
The foundation of a good relationship  with a dog is the making of a few sensible decisions.
The first and perhaps most important decision are to carefully select a breed of dog that is most likely to fit into the family temperament and lifestyle. There are many breeds to choose from, there are breeds that can cope with hot, muggy temperatures like the Australian Silky Terrier, he meet the special need for a compact pet and home companion for apartment and urban dwellers.
Silkys have always been a popular house pet, and can put up with children. Silkys are hardy, non-shedding odourless, and also a great little watch dogs. But he has some right to be a full member of your family.
He thrives on social interaction, praise and love. He has the right to regular exercise. He has the right to quality health care, and a good diet. He depends on you.
Once the breed is selected, the buyer should look for a breeder who is a registered member of a Dog club and produces pedigree puppies that fit the breed’s physical description.

PEDIGREE SPECIAL FEATURE

This Pet Owners’ Test is designed to help you nurture your relationship with your cat or dog and discover useful Pet Tips.
Here’s a sample of what you can expect to find online at
www.thetest.com.au.
1. How often do you take at least a few minutes to give your pet a good old pat and scratch behind the ear?
a. At least once a day b. Every couple of days c. Once a month or less d. Never

PET TIP Giving your pet a few cuddles and pats ever/day is important and has many benefits. Not only does it help you bond with your pet and make him/her feel loved and secure, but it is also a way of making you feel more relaxed. Interestingly, it has been proven that giving your pet a pat instantly lowers your blood pressure. People who own a pet are also less likely to suffer from heart conditions have lower cholesterol and typically visit the doctor less often.
2. Have you ever
made friends with another person because of your pet? PET T1P Owning a pet is a great way to make new friends and can help reduce the feeling of loneliness. Next time you are out and about with your pet, introduce yourself and your pet to someone new— your pet may even make a new friend or two!
3. When you need a shoulder to cry on, whom do you turn to first? a. Your pet b. Your partner c. A friend d. Other PET TIP Your pet can provide you with unconditional love and can be a great friend in the time of a crisis. Research confirms that pet owners recover more quickly from surgery and illness and deal better with stressful situations compared with non-pet owners.

4. Do you brush your pet’s teeth? a. Yes b. No
PET TIP
Did you know that brushing your pet’s teeth is the gold standard when it comes to dental care? Daily brushing is recommended but any brushing is considered beneficial.
Only ever use a pet approved toothpaste and brush in a circular action. 5. When was the last time your pet made you laugh or smile? a. Today b. In the last week

THE PUPPY TEST

If you’ve recently welcomed a new puppy into your home, then this is the Test for you The Puppy Test is designed to help you access and understand your new best friend’s behaviour and provide you with useful Pet Tips. Here’s a sample of what you can expect to find online at www.thetest.com.au.

1. Do you let your puppy sleep on the bed with you? a. Yes, every night b. Occasionally c. Never as my partner won’t allow it d. Definitely not

PET TIP
There is no right or wrong answer here. Sleeping with your pet is not for everyone but it can be a good way to bond with your new best friend. Do keep in mind that where your puppy sleeps in the first few weeks, is where he or she will expect to sleep forever If you do let your puppy sleep on your bed then make sure you use regular intestinal worm and flea control using vet-approved products. Making sure your pet is well groomed is important but you should limit bathing to every 2 weeks at most.(A Medicated Wash "TRIOCIL" is the answer- recommend by the Breeder Helmut )  Finally, your pet should not be aggressive or possessive when it comes to sleeping on furniture and should always move aside when asked.

2. Have you provided your puppy with any toys? a. Yes b. No

PET TIP Well done if you’ve already bought some toys for your pup, if this isn’t you, then there are some excellent toys available that are educational and entertaining. Toys that must be manipulated by your pet to release treats are an example. They are great for puppies and it can be entertaining watching your puppy learn how to get to the treat. Ask your veterinarian for some recommendations. The most important point to remember is that no pet toy is indestructible and no pet toy is 100 per cent safe. You should always use a pet toy under supervision until you are confident that your pet can use it safely Puppies love sampling things with their mouths so keep potential hazards such as string and electrical cords out of reach.

3. Have you given your puppy any milk? a. Yes  b. Only pet approved milk c. No
 c. Some time ago
 d. I can’t remember

PET TIP Pets are notorious for doing funny things and are a great source of amusement whether it is your cat playing in a paper bag or your dog running crazily around the backyard. It’s important to take the time to appreciate your pet and any idiosyncrasies, as a bit of laughter never hurt anyone!
